Graytex Metals emerges in the textured and patterned metals market

Designers, architects, fabricators and engineers are looking for additional inspiration on how to make their product or project stand out amongst the crowd. Aesthetic and functional textures can be one of the most important components of design projects, and choosing and applying the right texture to the various components of the project can turn the project into an eye catching piece of art. With the advent of 3D printing and the wealth of software now available, these designers and architects are demanding decorative and coloured finishes, especially when there is metal finishing involved. The flat, uninspiring ‘vanilla’ piece of metal is no longer acceptable in this world of glamour, except in the engineering environment where sheet metal or plate is used for practical or function-first engineering reasons with “rigidized” finishes offering up to 35% additional flexural strength to standard flat steel sheet. But even the engineering shop is not immune to the design trend. At the recent EMO Milano 2015 machines were displayed with gleaming white and pristine livery, highlighted by slick graphics, windows, and mesmerising LED displays. The result is a stunning piece of hardware...

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Military Health System will be placing triage tents outside local military medical facilities to safely screen military members for COVID-19. The triage tents will be placed outside of Brooke Army Medical Center, Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center, Randolph Clinic and Reid Clinic, SAMHS officials said Sunday. “Given our mission to provide world-class healthcare to over 240,000 beneficiaries, SAMHS is taking all necessary precautions to prevent unintentional COVID-19 cases from entering our hospitals and clinics,” said Maj. Gen. John DeGoes, director, SAMHS, and commander, 59th Medical Wing, in a press release. There are currently no Joint Base San Antonio personnel with COVID-19; however, the triage tents will be set up as a precaution. “Please keep in mind that these triage tents will only become operational if necessary and will not limit our trauma mission or our patients’ access to healthcare,” DeGoes said. BAMC is temporarily delaying elective surgeries as well in an effort to help limit the spread of the coronavirus, according to health officials. “We will continue to take proactive steps, working alongside our military and community part...

New Sled from Janam Brings UHF RFID Reading to Android-based Handhelds – 2019-05-27 – Page 1

Several companies are testing a new product that offers the option of reading UHF RFID tags via handheld computers. Early this year, Janam Technologies released its UHF RFID sled that brings RFID functionality to its Android-based XT2 and XT2+ devices, thereby allowing customers to use a single mobile device to scan bar codes and read Near Field Communication (NFC) and high-frequency (HF) RFID tags, as well as use the new Bluetooth-connected sled to interrogate ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) RFID tags. The new sled is intended to bring RFID to companies that traditionally utilize bar codes or NFC reads to identify products, assets or personnel on job sites. The XT2 handheld computer was released several years ago, and the most recent iteration, an Android 6 version, is the XT2+, launched in mid-2018. The unit enables the capturing of a tag’s ID number at a frequency of 13.56 MHz, complying with both the 15693 ISO (for HF) and ISO 14443 (for NFC) standards. It is also commonly used for bar-code scanning. With a cellular and Wi-Fi connection, the system allows businesses to store data regarding such scanning events. The need to scan bar codes isn’t expected to end any time...

Smart Hangers With NFC Help Shoppers Find Their Fit – 2020-03-06 – Page 1

French technology company BlueGriot is commercializing a Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled in-store display hanger that captures data about the clothes hanging on it, then displays that data on a built-in screen, thereby sharing information about the product and any related sizes and styles available at the store. By using dual-frequency RFID tags, stores can capture both UHF RFID data for inventory management, as well as NFC RFID data for the consumer experience. The solution can automatically detect which item is hanging on a hanger and link that information to UHF-based inventory data regarding what other garments are in stock. Thus, shoppers can better understand what clothing items are available without having to seek out a salesperson for help or pull out a phone to look up products available for sale online. Galeries Lafayette describes the smart hanger-based display at its store as a way to reinvent the customer experience. Instead of customers having to search through display products to find the right color and size, says Rudy Houque, Bluegriot’s founder, that effort can be done for them with the help of the hanger. According to Houque, the retailer sought ...
